Privacy Policy

Last updated 10 September 2026

The short version. Lyra works without an account. If you never sign in, nothing about you is sent anywhere — your liked bhajans, playlists and history stay on your device. Sign in only if you want that library on more than one device.

What we collect, and only if you sign in

DataWhere it comes fromWhy
A user identifierApple or Google, when you sign inTo know which library is yours
Email addressApple or Google, if you choose to share itTo recognise you on a new device
Your nameApple or Google, if providedShown in Settings, nothing else
Your libraryYou — liked tracks, playlists, recent playsSo it syncs between your devices

If you use Sign in with Apple and choose Hide My Email, we receive only Apple's relay address. We never see your real one.

What we never do

Lyrics

When you open the lyrics for a track, the app asks our server for them. The server looks the song up in a public lyrics database, and if it isn't there, transcribes the recording's audio using OpenAI's Whisper. Only the track's public audio URL and its title are sent — never anything about you. Results are cached so the same recording is only ever transcribed once.

Where the music comes from

Recordings are streamed from the Internet Archive and, in some cases, Audius. Lyra filters to items that declare a Creative Commons licence or public-domain status. Those services may keep their own logs of requests, under their own privacy policies.

Deleting your account

In the app: Library → Settings → Account → Delete account. That removes your account record and the library stored with it from our server immediately and permanently. Music and settings on your device are untouched. You can also email hey@binski.in and we will do it for you.

Where data is held

On our own server, not a third-party analytics platform. Your library is kept until you delete your account.

Children

Lyra is rated 4+ and contains no objectionable material, but it is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date above. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
